Magic and comedy show planned in Harrison

Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will sponsor a comedy and magic show with dinner Saturday at the post, 894 Veterans Drive.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6. The menu includes choice of chicken courdon bleu or roast beef, scalloped potatoes, vegetable and dessert. The show featuring Michael Misko will begin at 8 p.m. There will be a cash bar, pull tabs and a 50-50 raffle.

Dinner to benefit St. Joseph HS musical

St. Joseph High School, Harrison, will have a musical dinner fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the school Patterson Hall, 800 Montana Ave., Natrona Heights.

Cost is $15 and $10 for children 12 and younger. Tickets are being sold online only and fees are added to the cost. Dinner includes chicken tenders, hot dogs and desserts will be available for $1. There will be special music performances at 6 and 7 p.m., outdoor games, raffles and a basket auction.

Prospect Cemetery cleanup planned March 15

Prospect Cemetery is requesting that Christmas flowers, decorations and grave blankets be removed by March 15.

The cemetery is no longer able to dispose of these items and families must remove them.

Today: The Yarn Good Time needle arts group at Apollo Memorial Library will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. at the library, 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave. to knit, crochet, embroider or cross stitch. All ages and skill levels welcome. Details: 724-478-4214.

Saturday: Apollo Events Committee will sponsor a bake sale to benefit the Bring Back the Fireworks Fund from noon to 4 p.m. in Apollo Plaza. Saturday: St. James Church, 109 Owens View Ave., will offer the sacrament of anointing after the 4:30 p.m. Mass.

Friday: The Tomb will sponsor Freedom Fridays for students age 12 to 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center, 1821 Fifth Ave. There will be praise and worship, games, movies, karaoke, drinks and snacks. Free admission.

Friday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., is accepting orders for its pierogi sale. Varieties: potato or sauerkraut. Pickup: 12:30 to 4 p.m. Fridays in the church social hall. Cost: $12 per dozen. Orders: 724-339-9257, 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Today: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center offers free grab and go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone welcome.

Today: Bingo will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the American Legion, 845 First Ave.

Saturday: Pioneer Hose Fire Department will host a spaghetti dinner in honor of fallen Brackenridge police Chief Justin McIntire from noon to 6 p.m. at the firehall, 124 Morgan St. Cost: $10; 12 and younger, $5. Parking will be available in the Salvation Army parking lot. There will be a basket raffle and 50-50 and memorial T-shirts, bracelets and window decals will be sold. Tickets: at the door. Proceeds will be donated to McIntire’s family.

Saturday: The Clothed With Love clothes closet at Evangel Heights Church, 120 Beale Road, will distribute free clothing in sizes infant through adult from 9 a.m. to noon.

March 18: The New Kensington Camera Club and Focus on the Arts Gallery will offer a free workshop, “Basics of Photo Editing Using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop,” from 1 to 4 p.m. in suite 208 at Pittsburgh Mills Mall. Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Today: Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 754 N. Pike Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. Under new management with higher payouts. The kitchen will be open. Proceeds benefit post and auxiliary projects.

March 26: A gun bash will begin at noon at Kiski Township Volunteer Firehall, 1037 Route 56. Doors open at 11 a.m. Cost: $25, includes two numbers for the drawing, food and drink. There will small games of chance and a 50-50. Tickets: Christine, 724-541-6345.

Today: A New Path Al-Anon Family Group, a free, confidential program for anyone whose life has been affected by someone else’s drinking, will meet at 7 p.m. online for the winter months. Details: tinyurl.com/yp6hd8zn.

Saturday: The Murphy’s Music Center 56 East Band will be featured at a St. Patrick’s Day kick-off dance from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Marconi Club, 135 River Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Free admission. Must be 21 or older. Public welcome.

March 15: Springdale Free Public Library will host an evening story time for all ages with author James Turner at 6 p.m. at the library, 331 School St. Turner will discuss his book, “How the Cat Got Its Sound.” Reservations required. Reservations: 724-274-9729.
